Abstract

The present study identifies a low level of reading and writing skills of students at the Vicente Rocafuerte Educational Unit in Guayaquil, which negatively affects educational quality. A detailed analysis reveals that this deficiency impacts the teaching-learning process and underscores the importance of social skills for adequate performance. Therefore, the following question arises: How does this deficiency affect the significant learning of students in 8th grade during the 2015-2016 school year? To address this problem, it seeks to optimize reading and writing skills through the integration of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) as a methodological strategy in the classroom. This includes the implementation of active and integrative strategies. The research methods applied are mixed, covering a sample of 500 students and all the teachers of Language and Literature. The results show that oral communication, text comprehension, written production and the use of ICT by teachers significantly improve learning.
