Abstract

Aneurysm is the name for the expansion of blood vessels. To define an aneurysm, the focal enlargement of the artery must be at least 50% of its normal diameter. Aneurysms occur in places where the blood vessel wall is weakened. As a result of the expansion of the aneurysm, a blood vessel may burst and bleed, which may have a fatal outcome, and the aneurysm may also be the site of throm- bosis and the origin of clots. Aneurysm treatment is usually operative.
