Abstract

Nanotechnology is changing the face and structure of the world. In this review article, an excellent introduction about nanotechnology and carbon nanotubes has been discussed.

The nanotechnology is enhancing the properties of the materials with the reduced size. Nanotechnology is making the things cheaper, lighter and more durable with enhanced properties. In the methodology, growth of CNTs has been discussed by chemical vapour deposition techniques like LPCVD, Laser ablation technique, plasma enhanced chemical vapour deposition technique (PECVD), Arc discharge techniques in detail with their mechanism diagrams. Various numbers of sensor characteristics like fast response, fast recovery, repeatability, selectivity, sensitivity, long term stability have been discussed in detail. Effect of target gas concentration, humidity level has also been discussed and reported. Inspite of sensor characteristics, field emission properties have also been discussed in detail. Excellent results of surface morphology of as grown CNTs have been shown by FESEM and internal structure has been shown by HRTEM. Diameter distribution has been shown by Raman Spectroscopy. As a conclusion, Excellent SWCNTs can be grown by PECVD technique for excellent gas sensitive sensors and field emission applications.
